Why Couples Counseling?

A professor once told me that couples often seek therapy six years too late, after they've tried everything else and are on the verge of divorce or separation.

As a marriage counselor, I encounter deep despair, persistent negative patterns, loneliness even when not alone, contempt, loss of self, and a complete absence of physical affection… so many couples come to therapy way beyond their due date. Don't wait until it becomes unbearable. By then, unresolved resentment can make treatment much more difficult.

Conflict isn't the problem; what's essential is the ability to repair. Let me help you make those repairs.

I love working with couples.

In 2014, during my internship at a counseling center in Chicago, I was introduced to couples therapy. My duties involved assisting a psychologist in conducting marriage workshops. On my first day, I was struck by the diversity of the participants—couples from a variety of ages, backgrounds, cultures, and life experiences, all committed to enriching or saving their relationships.

I was thankful to witness firsthand the universality of challenges that come with partnerships. This eye-opening clinical and personal experience helped me realize that, like many aspects of life, love is both a skill and a verb, and romantic love often embodies paradoxes that can be challenging for us all to navigate.

Relationships come in all shapes and sizes, as values differ greatly among couples. One of my biggest passions in therapy is helping couples work toward building a relationship that works for them.

The type of relationship you have, and who you are in a partnership not only shape your identity, but also determine the trajectory of your life. Let me help you build a relationship that works for you.
